Cycling Ireland Track League #3Sundrive Road, Dublin, May 15, 2004By Shane Stokes The third round of Cycling Ireland's track league took place at the Sundrive Road/Eamon Ceannt stadium venue on Saturday. Elite one league leader Keith Bannan (BuaSports) did not take part in the racing, with Peter Dunne (Navan Avonmore RC) showing his own sprinting speed when he bested the UK rider and Manchester Velodrome regular Ian George (Yosumitsu Schlapp) at the end of the ten lap scratch race which opened the day's action. Dunne also won the Elimination race, while Paul Doyle (BuaSports) was best in the 8 lap points race. Eddie O'Donoghue (Usher IRC) took the Unknown Distance event and Malcolm Goggins (Murphy and Gunn) won the handicap. Elite two league leader Paddy Davis added to his points total when he rode strongly in in two events. The Usher IRC veteran won the Elite 2 scratch race and also finished second to Brendan Whelan (Stagg's Lucan) in the ten lap scratch. Dublin bike couriers Nathan John (unattached) and Martin Rice (unattached) showed good form in the Unknown Distance event to take first and third. John was third in the Devil Take the Hindmost race won by Navan Avonmore's Emmet Roche. In the handicap event, Liam Walker held off the other riders to take a good win. Next Saturday will see a change of format. Racing will begin at 10.30 with registration at 12.30. Track bikes are required. There is a full programme of racing for underage and junior riders and a limited number of track bikes are available for use by these. The CI Track Commission are hoping for a bigger turnout from this point on for the latter events, as they say they have been disappointed by the turnout by youth riders thus far.
