Day 3 - September 9: Sprint, Time Trial

With three days completed of the World Masters Track Cycling Championships in Manchester the medals table is still headed by America with Great Britain and Australia in the following positions all extending their lead on the other 18 nations.

Men's 30-34 years Sprint

Marco Librizzi snatched victory on the line to deny fellow Brit Neil Potter the gold in the sprint competition. This was the flying Scot's second title of the Championships. On day 1 the Edinburgh rider collected gold in the time trial event. Potter hung on for the silver with Ryan Crane from the States collecting bronze

Men's 35-39 years Sprint

Wikus Esterhuizen of South Africa successfully defended the sprint title he won twelve months ago. Kirk Whiteman, champion in the 30-34 category in 1997 and 1998 collected the silver medal with bronze going to Britains Stefan Collins

Men's 40-44 years Sprint

Geoff Stoker successfully defended his sprint title. In an all Australian final he proved too strong for the Law brothers. Grant the youngest of the pair followed Stoker home for silver with Mitch collecting bronze.

Men's 45-49 years Sprint

Gil Hatton set two worlds best times on his way to winning the gold medal in the sprint competition. This was the Americans second title of the Championships. His first came in the individual time trial on day one.

Hattons first world mark came in the qualifying time trial where he recorded 11.220 seconds to shave 0.131 off the previous mark established in 1997 by another American Butch Stinton.

World Best mark number two came in the first round where he covered the final 200metres in 11.488 seconds which was 0.194 inside Stintons time recorded in 1998.

In the final Hatton was followed home by the British duo of Dave LeGrys for silver and Mark Zaschke in the bronze position.
