Southern California Two-day Madison - NESan Diego Velodrome, USA, September 20-21, 2003Surprise win for Klipper & WallaceDave Klipper and Shaun Wallace were the surprise winners of the Southern California 2-Day Madison, held at the San Diego Velodrome. Surprise because even they thought they were sprinting at the end for second place behind national champion Erik Saunders and young Dan Holloway, but when the officials reviewed the points tabulations it was discovered how they had been twice credited the 20 points for taking a lap. Coming into the final 25km Madison it was Roger Farrell & Chris Springer (team nerac.com) with a narrow lead over Matt Hoffman & Kevin Schiller. But neither of these teams were part of the three attacks which resulted in a total of six teams taking laps. The teams competed over two days with 250 laps of Madison races, plus miss-n-outs, scratch races, and a standing two-lap and a flying one-lap time trial. The separate sprint event was won my Malaysia’s Josiah Ng over San Diego’s Chris Henderson.
