Nail biting finish in Grenoble
After leading for almost the entire six days in Grenoble, South African/French pairing Jean-Pierre Van Zyl/Robert Sassone failed at the death to wrap it up, being beaten by a solitary point by Swiss duo Alexander Aeschbach/Franco Marvulli. Third place, and finishing on the same lap as the first two teams, were Italians Ivan Quaranta/Marco Villa.
The deciding race was the final 45 minute madison, which was hotly contested by the two leading teams, and Aeschbach/Marvulli battled it out with Van Zyl/Sassone until the end. The final score: The Swiss won the chase with 42 points compared to Van Zyl/Sassone's 38 points, and that was just enough to put them on top in the overall standings.
In the other categories, Arnaud Tournant took home the Golden Sprint award, while Florian Rousseau and Laurent Gane won the Keirin and Master du Sprint classifications respectively. The Espoirs Sprint was taken by Mathieu Mandard, while Aurelie Marie won the Women's category. The Juniors class was won by Alexandre Murciano with Morgan Kneisky and Thomas Girard claiming the cadets and minimes titles.
