5 points separates top three with one day remaining
On the penultimate day of the Gent Six, just five points separates the top three couples, with the Dutch pairing of Robert Slippens and Danny Stam barely holding onto their lead by a margin of just one point (285 pts) over the Matthew Gilmore and Bradley Wiggins (284 points), who have now moved into second place ahead of Australian Scott McGrory and Frenchman Robert Sassone, with McGrory and Sassone still well within striking distance on 280 points.
The Belgian/British combination of Matthew Gilmore and FDJeux.com road professional Bradley Wiggins put on an excellent display on Day 5 at the Gent Velodrome, winning the midnight sprint and two out of four rounds in the derny, and placing second in both the points race and the first round of the madison. Slippens and Stam, on the other hand, did not win an event all night, with McGrory and Sassone also benefiting from a reversal of fortune after taking out the second madison.
