When Jim Gentes founded Giro twenty years ago in Northern California, he was inspired by the grand tours of Europe - thus the name Giro. As we toured the Milano show, what more fitting place to see what's new from Giro in the city where the Giro d'Italia finishes.
Giro's enlightened Xen model gets extra karma with this cool new paint and graphics scheme reminiscent of a Sex Pistols album cover. The hands-down choice of freeriders, Xen has a low profile look with light weight and great performance. Ubiquitous but to a lesser extent in Italy, the yellow Livestrong bands from the Lance Armstrong Foundation have inspired a special edition Atmos Livestrong helmet from Giro. Even Armstrong uses the helmet which features a matte black finish, yellow Livestrong graphics and comes complete with a Livestrong helmet pod.
Lovely Limar
At Italy's top helmet producer Limar, the company's Piero Bionda was happy to show us its new top of the line road model - the 969. "We are proud of our new 969 model as it stays true to the design traditions of Limar; great style, low profile and more air flow than ever because we have 33 specially shaped vents. Plus the carbon inserts in them design keep the weight of the 969 under 300 grams."
