Interbike part six - Carnac 2003

The shoe line worn by George Hincapie and other top Pro riders got a complete revamp for 2003. The popular Quartz will now be available in narrow and wide widths in addition to the standard width sold last year. These additional widths will only be avilable in the black and yellow model.

The remaining 4 models in the road line-up are all new. First off is the Matrix. it features the same UCS 3 EV sole and Kangaroo leather as the Quartz and offers an optional carbon fiber sole stiffening bar. Also new is an indexed buckle which is a first for Carnac. The unique design of the buckle allows you to set your desired position and then loosen the buckle with a cam system just enough to slide the shoe on and off. One lever flip snugs the shoe back to your pre-set fit. The Matrix also gets new fiberglass reinforced straps to prevent stretching and add to the overall durability of the strap. (US$239)
Next off is the Platinum. Very similar to the Matrix, it substitutes a third fiberglass reinforced strap for the buckle and offers laces under the tongue. (US$219).

Also on offer is a womens specific design in sizes 35-42. Named the Riviera, it uses 2 fiberglass reinforced straps and the versatile MPS 3 sole which fits most pedal systems without additional sole inserts. (US$159).
The Winner is a three strap model with laces under the tongue (US$159) and the Trieste is their budget shoe utilizing a simialr design to the Winner with leather. (US$139).
On the off road side, the Syrius gets upgraded with the new buckle system and fiberglass reinforced straps and takes on the name, Boreal. (US$225). Last years Allez also gets a new name and new styling. Now referred to as the Campus, it uses 3 velcro straps with laces under the tongue. ($175US)
