Eurobike 2002Friedrichshafen, Germany, August 29-September 1, 2002NicolaiBy Tim Maloney What was this guy thinking when his obviously diabolical mind designed the Nucleon DH? Equipped with a Rohloff speedhub 14 speed gearbox, the Nucleon DH mates a 7020 aircraft alloy front end with a massive 7005 series CNC machined rear swingarm. Rear travel is 130-230mm. The complete bike pictured is the Nucleon FR, a brand new design from Nicolai, this free ride bike has a 165mm rear hub spacing and a 100mm bottom bracket, offering a weight of 35 to 40 lbs for a complete bike. Currently, Nicolai is one of only a few companies out there pushing the concept of "high-performance internal transmission bike and perhaps this innovative German bike maker is on to something.
