Sterling road race

Sterling, MA, May 11

Team Mercury report

Derek Bouchard-Hall notched win #42 by winning the Sterling RR Saturday in Sterling, MA. A classic on the New England calendar, the race was 80 miles on a hilly circuit that included a steep 200 meter wall to the start/finish line. Mark McCormack of Saturn broke away from the gun with three others, including one of the Cannondal/Wheelworks team which had the largest contingent in the field with 9 riders.

Soliciting the help of Kirk Albers (Jelly Belly), Kevin Monohan and Doug Ziewacz (7-Up), Adam Myerson (Mengoni) and the hesitant Wheelworks team who realized the break was not a winning combination for them, the field was able to organize a chase which brought back the break after 50 miles. Attacks quickly ensued and a break formed including Ziewacz, John Hamblin (Wheelworks), and Bouchard-Hall. The group stayed away to the line and Bouchard-Hall took the hard uphill sprint for the win.
