Results and Reports for April 20-21, 2002USAPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews When in ROAM Criterium #2New Branfauls, Texas, April 21, 2002A brisk wind out of the SE greeted the 27 riders at the start of the 70 minute Open criterium. Team Diabetic was out in force again this week, with Alistair Sponsel and Jason Sager adding to the horsepower of the group. The attacks started early in the race. A group of six broke free after three laps and were working well together. A chase group of about eight riders put in a hard effort, but was unable to pull the break in and a main pack of 15 formed. By this point the hard efforts at the front had whittled the break down to four, Sager, Skokan, Sponsel (Team Diabetic), and Joe Chipuk (UYS). The quartet worked together to build their lead, but it was only a matter of time before Team Diabetic would grow tired of the interloper. After multiple attacks to shake Chipuk, the effort finally paid off and the men in black were all alone in the front with Chipuk left in no man's land and a hard charging group of five bearing down fast. In the sprint it was Skokan getting the win, followed by Sager and Sponsel. Chipuk was able to stay clear of the chasers for fourth. In the 4/5 race Mike Molak was able to get his second victory in as many weeks and maintains a comfortable series lead. Ginger Colquette (Austin Flyers/UYS) raced hard in the male dominated pack and finished seventh. Big thanks to Action Bikes, ROAM Open Air Markets, the Kanes, Terry Larson, and Bicycle-Heaven for making this race possible. Next week is the points race!
