Festival of Speed Lake Nona Circuit Race - NRC

Fisher exacts revenge

By Giana Roberge, Saturn team

Looking for an opportunity for redemption, the Saturn Team was able to establish a break of ten riders in Sunday's Lake Nona Circuit Race. The race was scheduled to be a long affair of 200km on a flat 5km circuit around Lake Nona but rain delayed the start and the officials ruled to shorten the race to around 130km. With many teams keen on the win, the dangerous breakaways were heavily marked, until eventually a group came together that was strong enough to clear the chasing peloton. Once again it was teammates Danny Pate and Dave McCook from Prime Alliance, Italian sprint ace Roberto Gaggioli of Amore e Vita, and the now known fast man Greg Henderson from 7-up/Nutrafig joining Saturn's Chris Fisher. Coming into the last lap the group was together as Pate began the leadout for teammate McCook. Sensing the focus was on the final meters of the race, Saturn's Fisher took the group by surprise and jumped early, nearly 400 meters out from the finish. Using surprise and a big gear to his advantage, no one was able to catch him with McCook and Henderson settled for second and third respectively.

Report by Vince Smith

Chris Fisher of Saturn won the 125km circuit race during Sunday's second day of events at the Festival of Speed held in Orlando, FL. The day's penultimate event was delayed due to severe rain and the threat of lightning. After a delay of close to an hour the event was shortened from 200km to 125km. In a steady light rain the men's field set off around the 5km course. With about 40 to 45km to go a group of five was up the road when an eight man chase group including Saturday's Crit champ Danny Pate, Roberto Gaggioli, and local racer Mike Starr of Atlantic Shores Velo emerged from the field and bridged up to the leaders. The final lead group included Danny Pate and David McCook of Prime Alliance, Chris Fisher of Team Saturn, and Greg Henderson of Seven Up/Nutra Fig. In the final laps the lead group kept the speeds high with the speeds frequently around 55Kph on the back straight. The final sprint started early around 400 meters from the finish with Fisher holding off a hard-charging David McCook at the line. Greg Henderson grabbed third to complete the podium. Danny Pate finished 13th, Jay Sweet of Saturn finished 19th, and Jonas Carney of Prime Alliance took the 21st spot.
