Svorada gets his second stage
Voskamp clinches GC

Czech sprinter Jan Svorada (Lampre-Daikin) won his second stage of the Tour of Belgium, sprinting to a rain soaked victory ahead of Romans Vainsteins (Domo-Farm Frites) and Andrej Hauptman (Tacconi Sport) in Marche-En-Famenne. The Lampre rider also won the first stage, and today he was again over a bike length in front of second place. Dutchman Bart Voskamp (BankGiroLoterij-Batavus) had few problems in retaining his leader's jersey, and emerged as the overall winner of the 2002 Tour of Belgium.
The last stage was run over 160 kilometres from Bilzen to Marche-En-Famenne through the Ardennes, although it did not feature the famous climbs used in Liege-Bastogne-Liege or Fleche Wallonne. It was hilly enough to make for a tough stage, especially combined with the strong south westerly wind.

100 riders started the final stage, with notable absentee being Andrei Tchmil, who finished his career with a win in yesterday's stage 3. Tchmil attended the start in plain clothes and said a word of farewell to the cycling community. Johan Museeuw responded on behalf of the racers to thank Tchmil and wish him luck.
With 25 kilometres covered, Belgian based American Jeff Louder (Colnago-Landbouwkrediet) went on the offensive, quickly building a sizeable lead as he battled the wind. His maximum gap was 7 minutes in Durbuy (85 km to go) before it began to be whittled down by the Bankgiroloterij and Palmans led peloton.
With 30 km to go on the three finishing circuits, a reaction from Marco Milesi (Domo), Médéric Clain (Cofidis), and Pascal Deramé (Bonjour) caught Louder, who could not hold them on the climb. Deramé also couldn't hang on and Clain and Milesi rode together until they were caught by Mario Aerts (Lotto) and Bobby Julich (Telekom).
With 15 km to go, the four had been caught but the attacks continued. Guennadi Mikhailov (Lotto) was next to try, accompanied by Lampre's Manuel Quinziato. They lasted until 11 km to go when Franck Renier and then Alexandre Vinokourov (Telekom) tried.
Vinokourov's attack split the peloton on the climb, although he couldn't shake Svorada and Vainsteins, who were part of the front group that rode to the finish in the pouring rain. Race leader Voskamp also showed his strength on the climb, putting second placed Ludo Dierckxsens on the defensive for a short while.
In the end, the peloton regrouped enough for a bunch sprint, which was easily taken by Svorada from Vainsteins and Hautpmann. Voskamp finished in the main group, and won an important victory for him and his team.
