Gollan solos to a win at Rigaud

Nobili rider Olivia Gollan won stage two of the 2006 Tour du Grand Montreal in a solo win over the top riders of the day. T-Mobile's Judith Arndt and Nurnberger's Trixi Worrack sprinted for second and third.
There were multiple attacks by the Nobili team during the first half of the difficult stage. Walter Zin, directeur sportif of Nobili told Cyclingnews, "Our goal in coming to Montreal was really for the World Cup. But, Olivia crashed there, broke her bike and she also has had allergies."
"It is very difficult for us to go for the general classification here because we arrived without the time trial bikes," said Zin. "So for this race we are going to focus on the stage wins. It would be very hard for us to get in the top three of the general classification because of losing the time in the time trial and there are so many good riders here - a top ten is good."
The Rigaud route was 118km long, starting with four 23km circuits that included a three-kilometer climb and an intermediate sprint each lap. Two 10km circuits followed that included a steep two-kilometer Queen of the Mountain (QOM) each lap.
There were multiple accidents in today's stage including spills by Webcor-Platinum's Erinne Willock and Victory Brewing's Rachel Heal. Both riders were able to get back on their bikes after their separate accidents and finish with the front group.
Webcor-Platinum's Christine Thornburn retains the lead just eight seconds a head of Nurnberger's Trixi Worrack. Worrack accumulated eleven seconds today combining the intermediate sprint bonuses and her third place time bonus. She has also captured the sprinter's jersey to be worn in tomorrow evening's criterium.

No breaks were successful in staying away until the beginning of the small circuits. Webcor-Platinum rider Erinne Willock launched her attack and was followed by several other riders. Willock drove it over the top winning the first QOM and creating a split of fifteen riders off the front.
"I attacked and the field was on me so I kept going really hard and then I caused the split and I was alone," said Willock. "I wanted someone to come with me because it is so hard to stay away. It gave Christine a chance to sit in and other team to work."
Willock remained off the front until the beginning of the final climb. "Ann Samplonious [Biovail] bridged up to her but we all caught both of them at the start of the climb and Beutler won that QOM," said Thorburn.
Elk Haus rider Annette Beutler accumulated enough QOM points to capture the lead the climbers competition.
Over the top of the final climb the race was led by a group of eleven riders including two from T-Mobile. In the last kilometer the group swelled to fifteen that contained both Kristin Armstrong and Kori Seehafer from TEAm Lipton.
"They took turns attacking and I had to cover both of them," said Thorburn. "There were so many attacks but I decided I only had to really cover Kori and Kristin."
Gollan attacked the group with two kilometers to go and got a gap. "No one really had to chase her because she is not too high in the general classification so she won by two seconds," said Thorburn. "Then Kori attacked with eight hundred meters to go and I caught her with three hundred meters to go."

The sprint for second place began with two hundred meters to go where Arndt nipped Worrack at the line.
