Tour of Qinghai Lake - 2.HCChina, July 15-23, 2006Main Page Results Overall standings Stage Details Previous Stage Stage 9 - July 23: XN Circuit Race, 84kmTjallingii sews up the overall as breakaway rider wins the stageWith one second dividing Maarten Tjallingii (Skil-Shimano) and Hossein Askari (Giant Asia) before today's stage it was going to be a close call either way at the end of the day. Thousands of people turned out to watch the last stage of this year Tour of Qinghai Lake, and they were not disappointed with a bunch sprint to decide the winner of the stage. Bogdan Bondrev (Intel-Action) initiated an attack straight from the gun and was soon joined by six others. The group rode together for the entire ten laps of the 8.4km circuit stretching the gap up to two minutes until they were caught in the final straight; all except for Bogdan Bondrev (Intel-Action) who went on to win his second stage of the tour. Maarten Tjallingii (Skil-Shimano) and Hossein Askari (Giant Asia) both finished in the bunch with the same time, giving the overall win to Maarten. The crowds were huge and the police had a hard time controlling them at the podium, and at one stage it looked like a crush was about to occur. Extra reinforcements were bought in and the situation was quickly bought under control. Relax-Gam had a good tour with Garcia-Casarrubi (Relax-Gam) winning the KOM overall and Nacor Rojo (Relax-Gam) winning the sprint category. Hossein Askari (Giant Asia) won the best Asian rider competition. PhotographyFor a thumbnail gallery of these images, click here Images by Mark Gunter/www.pbase.com/gunterphotograph
