Docker and Sulzberger stay clear

Victorian Mitchell Docker and Tasmanian Wesley Sulzberger launched a two man assault on the field in the Orbost Criterium stage. Docker and Sulzberger broke away from the pack 10 laps into the 30 lap race and were never headed, eventually sprinting to the line some 36 seconds ahead of the chasing bunch, with Docker claiming the victory.
Docker and Sulzberger shared the intermediate sprint points, although the latter claimed the overall lead in the sprint championship, with the Tasmanian now wearing the distinctive green jersey.
Docker claimed the course was a dangerous circuit and decided the best way to attack was to get out in front and stay away from any potential mishaps. "The best option was to be out in front and in hindsight I couldn't have asked for a better rider to be out there with," he said. "I know Wes' capabilities and knew we could work well together, but it surprised me that were able to get so much time into the bunch."
Sulzberger agreed, adding "I didn't think we would pull away from the bunch like we were allowed to." "I saw Mitchell jump early and decided it was a good wheel to try and get on."
Sulzberger has just returned from months racing in America and Canada with fellow South Australia.com riding teammates Sean Finning, Michael Ford, Ashley Hutchinson and Stephen Wooldridge, all of whom are competing in this Tattersall's Cup tour race.
In general classification, Docker and Sulzberger started the day posing no real threat with Docker, 27th and more than four minutes behind and the Tassie rider, 9th at 3.07 minutes behind the overnight leader, Will Dickeson of South Australia.

Dickeson finished in the bunch sprinting for third place, but saw his lead of 9-seconds to Dean Windsor slashed to 3 seconds after the latter claimed two seconds in intermediate sprints and a further four seconds bonus for finishing in fourth place.
Queenslander Miles Olman – winner of the Mallacoota second stage – claimed third place in the bunch sprint, followed closely by Windsor, Cody Stevenson (NSW) and the pre-tour favourite, Robert McLachlan (Canberra). McLachlan lost almost 4-minutes on the opening day and will be forced to work extra hard over the remaining stages to reclaim his status.
Victorian Sean Finning, winner of the opening stage, also finished in the bunch but was joined in equal third after being caught by South Australian Chris Jongewaard, at 13-seconds behind Dickeson.
