Dario Frigo's Fassa Bortolo Pinarello Dogma

While we were scoping out climbers' bikes before stage 10 of the Tour we happened upon Dario Frigo's Pinarello Dogma. Frigo is more of an all-rounder than a climbing specialist (well, okay, after French customs found suspicious substances in his wife's car during a routine check, he's a very unemployed all-rounder) and his bike reflects the way such riders set up for the mountains.

When Pinarello first released the Dogma, its curvaceous fork and seatstays were considered a little controversial, though more for their aesthetic value than anything else. But we have all quickly got used to its looks, though its combinaiton of magnesium main tubes, carbon fork and stays and Pinarello's MOst bottom bracket remains unique.
For the tenth stage to Courchevel, Frigo was using Campagnolo's feathereight Hyperon carbon wheel up front and the deep-rim Bora G3 at the rear, a combination that allows one to have a speedy yet controllable machine in almost all situations.

The rest of the gear on Frigo's bike is Fassa's standard selection of almost all-Italian goodies. Brakes and transmission are Campagnolo Record, including the lightweight Record chain to help get to the UCI's magic 6.8kg. The stem, bar and tyres come from Deda, with a Newton stem and shallow-drop, non-anatomic bar and Olimpico tubulars.

The only obvious non-Italian parts on the bike are Look's feathery new Keo pedals; the Keo seems to have been an instant hit with Look-sponsored riders this year because of its combinaiton of substantial weight-saving and familiar function.
