Sunday's sixteenth and eighth finals offered few surprises except Eadie's ouster, first at the hands of France's Mickaël Bourgain in the eighth finals, then in the repechage that followed. For most favourites, including Theo Bos (Netherlands), Laurent Gané (France), and Ryan Bayley of Australia, the early rounds posed no major difficulties. Barbados' Barry Forde was the primary beneficiary of the repechage rounds, clawing his way back from both the sixteenth and eighth finals to earn himself a place in the quarters. France's Bourgain, in his first Olympic appearance, declared himself satisfied to have beaten the "big man" Eadie. "It's the first time I've beaten Sean Eadie, so this is really good for my confidence," Bourgain said. Knowing he will face compatriot and heavy favourite Laurent Gané in the next round, Bourgain was unconcerned. "That is going to be a very tough one. But the positive thing is, that I am the outsider. I have nothing to lose at my first Olympic Games." PhotographyImages by www.epicimages.us
