The enthusiastic Viking takes yellow

The first stage of the Tour of Hungary was won by Slovakian rider Martin Prazdnovsky, while the overall leader's yellow jersey has been taken over by Morten Christiansen from Norway, who was the one who helped out the organisers in placing the straw bales (to slow down the field through a steep slope) before the first day.
Many riders made breakaway attempts during the day, but only four of them were successful (Slovakian Hecl, Norwegian Christiansen, Ukrainian Yakovlev and Dyudya). The two Ukrainian representatives from the Olympic track team managed to drive the break in the wind. The peloton did not try to chase as the Podbrezová and Cykelcity teams were involved in the action. The strongest Hungarian team, FTC, did not try its hardest to the yellow jersey (worn by Tamás Lengyel), and they concentrated only on controlling the break rather than bringing it back.
The four leaders kept their advantage until almost the end of the stage, but the peloton sped up in Balatonfüred, and caught the break in the final meters of the 178 kilometre stage. The winner of the stage was Martin Prazdnovsky (Slovakia) ahead of Christiansen (Norway) and Zoltán Remák (last year’s overall winner). The fastest Hungarian was Tamás Lengyel again (5th place).
Christiansen - not your average rider
Morten Christiansen, who finished second in the prologue and first stage, grabbed the yellow jersey. He is an unusual bike racer: he volunteered to help the organisers set up the route for the prologue. One of the managers of the Swedish Cykelcity team, Hungarian Dezso Veszprémi, told journalists that the Norwegian is very much liked by his team mates, and besides is a very successful cyclist.
