2003 Road World Championships - CMHamilton, Canada, October 7-12, 2003Day 1 - October 7: Junior Women Time TrialThe junior women's time trial is, as always, the first event of the championships and this year takes place over one lap of a 15.4km circuit. The course is a shortened lap of the 20.8km loop raced on by the senior divisions, cutting out one of the climbs up the Niagara Escarpment. Last year Anna Sugno (Italy) did her country proud by bringing home the first awarded Gold medal of the event, however she is not on the start list this year having moved on to senior ranks. Other top ranking riders from last year including Tatiana Guderzo (Italy) and Claudia Hecht (Germany) have also moved on leaving a new group of riders to battle it out. Favourites for the championship title this year may be Laura Bozzolo who is Italian National Champion both in the Time Trial and in the road race and Petra Bublova (Czech Republic), also duel National Champion who will be hoping to better her 10th place result of last year. Coming from Germany is Bianca Knopfle who is current German National champion and a contender on the MTB scene, whilst Australia bring Kate Nichols who raced so well in the recent GP Canada against the elite women. From the US, National Champion Karen Amundsen will compete as will Larsynn Staley, who placed 6th last year and became Junior World Champion on the track earlier this year and from Canada, National TT champion, Audrey Lemieux will be hoping to put on a winning performance in front of her home crowd.
