Chantal Beltman wins a second time in Rotterdam

After a busy week of racing for the women, with the world cup in Nürnberg and six days of the Holland Ladies Tour, 119 riders started in a very busy Rotterdam. Because of the World Harbour Days, helicopters of the Dutch Marine accompanied the riders during the neutral section.
The wind had a day off and that made the race in Holland an easy one. In the first hour the women rode 39.8 km and the bunch stayed complete, in the second hour the pace got up a little and there were 41 km completed.
At the passage of the Haringvlietbridge a brief shower and a fall split up the group and there were several attacks, Frances Newstead had 100 m gap and also Ghita Beltman had a 8 second gap. But it all came back together and the bunch sprint was won by Chantal Beltman (Acca Due O) in front of her teammate Diana Ziliute and Susanne Ljungskog (Powerplate-Bik). Chantal was very proud to win her second World Cup race and especially in Rotterdam in front of thousands of spectators.
Nicole Cooke (Ausra Gruodis) didn't even have to score any points today to win the World Cup overall, and she finished 54th in the bunch but took the big prize. In second place on the standings after some good performances in the latter half of the series was Regina Schleicher (Ger), followed by Mirjam Melchers (Farm Frites-Hartol). At just 20 years old, Cooke is the youngest winner of the women's World Cup, and has shown that she has a bright future in front of her.
