Grand Prix de Plouay - 1.12France, August 24, 2003Magnificent MartiasBy JF Quenet Ronny Martias of Vendée U has won the second amateur Grand Prix de Plouay in a magnificent effort. A member of an initial seven-man break, he worked with his sole remaining breakaway companion Yann Vigouroux of UC Chateauroux to prevent the return of Breton champion Christophe Thébault. Martias, 23, hails from Guadeloupe, a French island in the Caribbean. His cousin Christine Arron is a famous Olympic athlete, currently at the world athletics championships in Paris where she is racing in the 100m. Martias will turn professional next year with La Boulangère, following Jean-René Bernaudeau's dream to line up a black rider at the Tour de France. PhotographyImages by JF Quenet
