Stage 15 - Monday, July 21: Bagnères-de-Bigorre - Luz-Ardiden, 159.5 km
Climbs:
- Kilometre 94: Col d'Aspin (12.3 kilometres at 6.4 percent)
- Kilometre 134.5: Col du Tourmalet (17.1 kilometres at 7.4 percent)
- Kilometre 159.5: Luz Ardiden (13.4 kilometres at 7.6 percent)
Once called the "Athens of the Pyrenees", the Haute Pyrenees town of Bagneres-de-Bigorre has been crucial to the history of the Tour de France in the Pyrenees. This is the 5th time a Tour stage has started here and after an up and down first half across the Bigorre River valley, the last 80 kilometre of Stage 15 will be crucial, with Aspin, Hors Catégorie Tourmalet and the final steep assault of Luz Ardiden to conquer.
The last time the Tour finished atop Luz Ardiden, Basque rider Laiseka was cheered to victory by thousands of his Ikurrina waving compatriots and we'd certainly expect fireworks here from one or all of the Basque climbing trio of Laiseka, Mayo and Zubeldia on the 13.4 kilometre ascent.
