New Leader in Tour of Southland

The Tour of Southland has come alive with only the first change in the tour lead since day one. A well engineered move by the Southland Times team in the 79 km stage from Te Anau to Lumsden this morning has seen challenger Scott Guyton break Jeremy Yates' massive lead, and Guyton now leads the Tour with a margin of 25 seconds.
The move came when Guyton's team mate Glen Mitchell rode away from the start with Karl Murray and Robin Reid. On the big climb 36 km from the start, Mitchell rode away from the others but when he got the radio call that Guyton had ridden away from the bunch he sat up and waited. The pair quickly reeled in Reid and Murray and the quartet hammered through to the stage finish at speeds averaging 60kph.
For some time the chasing Yates was isolated between the leaders and the bunch and by the time his mate Heath Blackgrove dragged the bunch up, the damage was done. The stage was won by Robin Reid with Guyton taking second.
The race finishes at Invercargill this afternoon.
