Stage 3: Thursday Jan 23, Glenelg - Hahndorf , 164km

Live report    Results & report    Previous stage    Next stage

Start: 11am, Thursday 23 January

The field lines up a stone's throw from the sandy beaches of Adelaide's premier beachside suburb, Glenelg. The first 22 kilometres of the stage will be under race neutral conditions as the riders head into the centre of the city of Adelaide and out to Main North Rd.

The flag will drop opposite the Adelaide Super-Drome and the race then travels north before swinging towards the Adelaide Hills. This region is home to cool climate wines, orchards, farmland, Eucalypt forests, National Parks and native wildlife.

It's all there for you to enjoy but for the riders the Adelaide Hills mean a tough day in the saddle. The short sharp climb up Checker Hill will test the legs in the Laubman & Pank King of the Mountain competition while the sprinters will vie for SA Lotteries points at Mt Torrens and Balhannah. The riders will get a preview of the approach to the finish line when the race heads through the early German settlement of Hahndorf to begin the first of two circuits through surrounding towns.

Then it's back to Hahndorf for the finish. Join us at the finish line if you dare!
