Stage 4: Friday Jan 24, Unley - Goolwa, 144km

Live report    Results & report    Previous stage    Next stage

Start: 11am, Friday 24 January

Lining up amidst the cafes and designer boutiques the morning after the King William Road Street Party in Unley, fans can enjoy a leisurely breakfast as they watch the riders prepare for Stage 4.

The race proper starts at the Old Toll Gate and takes the riders through the Heysen Tunnel and onwards to the Fleurieu Peninsula. Echunga and Langhorne Creek host the SA Lotteries sprints but the climbers will have their eyes on the Laubman & Pank King of the Mountain points on offer at MacFarlane Hill, 11 kilometres from the finish in Goolwa.

The race travels through Currency Creek, an area rich in the history of the Permangk and Raminjeri peoples whose canoe makers have left their mark on many of the gum trees in the region.

Make a weekend of it. Stand at the point where Australia's famous Murray River finally meets the sea; hop on the steam powered Cockle Train, Australia's first railway; visit a craft market or while away the hours in the variety of museums and antique shops in surrounding towns. Then you can experience the joys of one of the many B&B's in the area before heading across the Peninsula to join the race again on Saturday for Stage 5.
