Complete live report

Welcome to Cyclingnews' live coverage of the Montreal Women's World Cup. The race is 12 laps of an 8.3 kilometre parcours, located in downtown Montreal and a large part of it is the same that was used in 1974 for the World road championships where Eddy Merckx took the first place, and in 1976 for the road race event of the Olympics games won by the Swedish Bernt Johansson.

11:45 - Lap 1

The strongest teams in the race, Saturn and Rona lead the way on the first lap, in a time of 13'38. Manon Jutras (Rona) was first through.

11:58 - Lap 2

The pack is still together on the second lap, which is also completed in 13'38. And also it's Manon Jutras (Rona) who leads Fabiana Luperini and Genevieve Jeanson (Rona) through. All eyes will be on Jeanson this year, after she utterly demolished a top class field in last year's event, winning by over seven minutes.

12:11 - Lap 3

The leading group has been reduced in size to under 40 riders, as they come through for the third lap. It's still Rona's Manon Jutras leading Luperini and Jeanson, with French rider Aline Camboulives in fourth spot across the line. The average speed so far is 36.17 km/h

12:26 - Lap 4

The riders come through for the 4th of 12x8.3 kilometre laps, and the speed has slowed, with that lap being completed in 14'42. No surprises as Manon Jutras (Rona) leads the peloton followed by Nicole Demars (Quebec Regional Team), Kim Bruckner (Saturn) and Pia Sundstedt. Amber Neben (Team T Mobile), Caroline Alexandre (GBr) and Judith Arndt (Saturn) are also in the lead group.

12:14 - Lap 5

The lead group continues to lose riders as we approach the halfway point, but still no serious attacks yet. Saturn and Rona are setting the pace.

12:26 - Lap 6

Aline Camboulives (France) and her teammate Sandrine Marcuz lead the main group on the sixth lap. Exactly halfway into the race and all the favourites are there: Arndt, Jeanson, Bruckner, Neben, Sundstedt and Bessette. The average speed is now 34.69 km/h

12:42 - Lap 7

Five laps (41 km) to go in the Montreal World Cup and there is a tactical game going on between the top teams, Saturn and Rona with all the favourites still there in the leading group. Manon Jutras leads across the line for the seventh lap, followed by Bruckner and Jeanson.

The last lap was raced in 16'26 - a lethargic 30.3 km/h

12:56 - Lap 8

Britain's Rachael Heal leads the way across at the end of the eighth lap, with her teammate Caroline Alexander not far behind. The pace has picked up a little with that lap being completed in 14'56 (overall avg 33.91 km/h). Bessette, Jeanson and Luperini are marking each other closely.

13:14 - Lap 9

The group continues to reduce in size, with only 15 or so riders left. Sandrine Marcuz led the way just in front of the pack, which contained Manon Jutras, Genevieve Jeanson, Aline Camoulives, Caroline Alexander, Sue Palmer-Komar, Susy Pryde, Amber Neben and others.

13:29 - Lap 10

Two laps to go and still no one has been able to break clear, although the peloton has thinned out substantially. That last lap was fairly slow: 15'43, with Luperini leading the bunch across the line. On her wheel was Dede Demet-Barry (rumours of her retirement have been greatly exaggerated) and Lyne Bessette. Jeanson, Sundstedt, Melchers and Neben are all there.

13:44 - Lap 11

Bell lap, and the peloton is still together, in preparation for the final uphill sprint. Genevieve Jeanson (Rona) leads but she hasn't been able to shake her rivals this time. Luperini, Melchers, Alexander, Bessette, Neben, Arndt, and Veronesi are all there. The average speed is 33.36 km/h.

13:58 - Lap 12

Despite an attack by Jeanson on the second last lap, the group came back together on the final lap. The 'retired' Dede Demet-Barry (Talgo- America) and Anna Millward (Saturn) caught the group and immediately attacked, amazingly staying away to win by a minute from Jeanson, who took the group sprint.

Demet-Barry won the race in front of her former teammate Millward. Jeanson was third, fourth place went to Mirjam Melchers (Dutch National Team) followed by Judith Arndt (Saturn) and Lyne Bessette (Quebec).
