Ouch claims final win with Pinfold
Canada’s Andrew Pinfold (Ouch presented by Maxxis) claimed the final Vuelta Mexico Telmex stage victory in a sprint finish. Pinfold held off a two pronged Spanish attack from Burgos Monumental teammates Joaquin Sobrino and Enrique Mata.
“I had Roman and Karl looking after me and when Karl goes like that, you can’t help but win,” Pinfold said. “The guys rode amazing. Everyone did their jobs today. When that happens, so do the wins.”
Ouch-Maxxis teamed up with the squad of race leader Jackson Rodriguez (Serramenti Pvc Diquigiovanni - Androni Giocattoli) to ensure the Venezuelan his overall win. With five riders within a minute of Rodriquez on general classification, there was still a chance victory could have slipped from his control on the final day.
“Right from the start, we sent Brad White and Pat McCarty to the front to help the Serramenti-Diquigiovanni team of race leader Jackson Rodriguez keep control of the race,” said Ouch-Maxxis directeur sportif Mike Tamayo.
Tamayo’s squad helped chase down a nine-rider break with about 15 kilometres remaining. The North American squad then moved to the peloton’s head with six kilometres to go, sending Floyd Landis, Cameron Evans, Karl Menzies, Roman Kilun and Pinfold to join McCarty and White.
“It’s great to have that kind of horsepower up front for a lead-out,” Tamayo added.
