Ryan takes TT victory
The 2006 Lion Foundation National Time Trial Championships were held today in Palmerston (Otago) in fine but windy conditions. Commonwealth Games track bronze medalist Marc Ryan won the Senior Men’s event by just 9 seconds over the defending champion Robin Reid (Cuddon Cycling Marlborough). Alison Shanks dominated the Senior Women’s race.
The junior fields were rich with depth and talent and included recent Junior Worlds medalists. Rachel Mercer of Levin was the convincing winner of the Under 19 Women upstaging pre race favourite Rushlee Buchanan of Te Awamutu. Jesse Sergent, just back into training following a rest period took out the Under 19 Boys.
The integration of Athletes With Disabilities has proved successful with recent Paralympic World Championships medalists complemented by a number of up and coming athletes.
