Swiss TT specialist Fabian Cancellara continued Fassa Bortolo's winning run by taking out the afternoon's 10.8 km time trial in Bettembourg in a fast time of 12'38 (51.29 km/h). Cancellara led Laszlo Bodrogi (Credit Agricole) and Stefan Schumacher (Shimano-Memory Corp) home by 13 and 14 seconds, but didn't quite do enough to take over the general classification. Bodrogi has the lead now, taking into account fractions of a second.
"I'm very satisfied with my condition with this time trial win," said Cancellara. "I've not raced since April 10 and this means that I have been working well at home. Now I am second in the classement only 13 hundredths of a second behind the leader, and if I look at it, there is a possibility of obtaining the leader's jersey. Tomorrow is the last sage of this tour and to win it, all that is necessary is to win an intermediate sprint. However, I didn't come here to ride for the classement, but to work on my physical condition, and I should say that I'm completely satisfied.
"In a week there is the Tour de Suisse and if I improve a bit I could do well there. Besides, I've seen this year that I feel consistently stronger than last year, and I hope to be competitive in the prologue of the Tour de France on July 2."
