Scott Moninger (Health Net) and Kim Anderson (T-Mobile) won the final stage of the Colorado Cyclist Classic Sunday. Men's race leader Will Frischkorn stayed out of trouble in the 75 minute criterium to retain the overall lead - his first overall victory in an NRC event - while in the women's race her victory was enough to hand the final overall title to Anderson.

The race course was a 1 mile technical route, with 10 turns and 2 hills per lap. Fans lined the start/finish area and one of the hills that was shaded in a residential neighborhood. Most of the course was on the same roads as the last Coors Classic crit stage 17 years ago.

The women's event was a race of attrition, with T-Mobile and Team Rio Grande trading punches and blowing other teams out the back wholesale. In the final sprint, T-Mobile's Kim Andersen took the win from Katrina Grove (Team Rio Grande), and the time bonus (10 seconds over second place) was enough to give her the overall win by just 3 seconds.

With 25 seconds separating race leader Will Frischkorn (Ofoto-Colavita) from Danny Pate (Health Net/Maxxis), the race was bound to be fast and furious. The first part of the race saw riders getting dropped in droves due to the constant pressure and flurry of attacks at the front.

Roughly 30 minutes in, a break containing Scott Moninger (Health Net/Maxxis), Chris Baldwin (Navigators), Aaron Olson (Ofoto-Colavita), Kelly Ruddick (Pro Peloton), and Sheldon Deeny (TIAA-CREF/5280) made its way off the front. After hanging just off the front of the Ofoto-Colavita and TIAA-CREF/5280 led pack, Health Net/Maxxis went on the offensive and launched Mike Sayers. In one of the most powerful rides of the day, Sayers went from the pack to the break in less than a lap, and immediately went to the front to drive the break clear. Within a couple laps, another group of 5 jumped clear and again Health Net/Maxxis was represented, this time by Mike Jones. As this group struggled to make contact with the leaders or stay clear of the pack, the front group splintered, and Olson, Ruddick, and Deeny were dropped. Behind, the different groups between the lead and the pack combined to form 3 different lead groups, all flying around the course.

With less than 20 minutes remaining, Health Net/Maxxis sent Chris Wherry out of the field to help Jones. Working with Dirk Friel (Vitamin Cottage), Wherry caught Jones's group and they started a chase to catch the next group up the road, but it was in vain. In the end, there were riders scattered around the course, with Scott Moninger soloing away from the lead group to take a popular win in his home town, and Baldwin edging out Sayers for second. Frischkorn, Danny Pate (Health Net/Maxxis) and Dan Bowman (TIAA-CREF/5280) finished together safely in the main field to retain their GC positions.

A delighted Frischkorn said afterwards, "This is my first NRC win overall and it is that much more special that it was a home in front of my friends. I owe so much to my team. They rode their hearts out all week. I am so grateful that they were strong enough to take care of me."
