O'Laughlin breaks Downing grip

By Tommy Campbell

David O'Loughlin of the Hibernian Team Ireland put a halt to the dominance of the Recycling.Co.Uk/MG XPower outfit when he won the individual time trial against the clock on the Beaufort/Killorglin 10 kilometre test yesterday morning. There was a slight headwind against the competitors but O'Loughlin a noted tt exponent showed his grit by clawing back time on the overall leader, Russell Downing. Russell is still in pole position but his advantage is now down to a mere five seconds with this afternoon's criterium in Killarney. Overall the top three on General Classification are separated by a tantalising 10 seconds. Dean Downing the winner of the first stage is third overall.
