Mount Hamilton Classic

The Mount Hamilton Classic is a mountain road race from San Jose to Livermore, California. It is one of the toughest races in California due to the 6000 foot total elevation gain over 63 miles and 20 mile climb to the top of Mount Hamilton.

- Rider's pre-race instructions always include a caution about descending Mount Hamilton.
- The Pro 1/2 group climbs out of the flats of Silicon Valley.
- The group stays together on the lower slopes of the mountain.
- The riders gain elevation quickly, but it's a 20 mile climb to the 4,000 foot summit of Mount Hamilton.
- Webcor rode well today, with the top two finishers in the men's race and second in the women's event.
- Riders are treated to spectacular views, but at the cost of searing lungs and legs.
- The women's field makes the epic climb under the watchful eye of a race referee.
- Jobst Brandt, originator of the race in 1958 (Pedale Alpini) rides with Brian Cox up the mountain on race day.
