Results and Reports from the USAPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Utah State Road ChampionshipHerriman, Utah, July 31, 2004By Todd Hageman High temperatures (mid 90s) and high winds welcomed the Pro 1/2 field for the Utah State Road Championship. Not only were the riders racing for the Utah crown, but also a shiny new titanium ring courtesy of OC Tanner. With 11 laps of a nine mile course ahead of them, the field was in no hurry. After a mellow first lap, the attacks started. Mitch McBeth (Canyon Elite) was the aggressor attacking several times until he and Jody Harris (Ogden One) got away on the third lap. With over 70 miles to go, the field was happy to let them have a go at it. The gap got up to four minutes but started to gradually come down. Marc Yap (Global Phone/Healthy Choice) and Eric Flynn (Porcupine/Contender) attacked the field and eventually bridged up to the break. But on the eighth lap it was all back together. But not for long, as Ryan Barrett (Global Phone/Healthy Choice) attacked and quickly gained a 2 minute advantage over what was left of the field. Ryan was looking strong, but the final laps took their toll and Ryan found himself back in the field. With the finish line in sight, Dave Harward (Canyon Elite) had the most left in his legs and pulled away from the rest of the exhausted field to take the State RR title. The course may have been the toughest competitor, as only 17 riders finished the day.
