Radochla takes the sprint for Wiesenhof

Team Wiesenhof's Steffen Radochla took revenge for being denied a stage one by powering to a sprint victory in stage two of the Rheinland-Pfalz Rundfahrt. On stage one, Radochla won the field sprint behind the solo breakaway of Navigators' Sergei Lagutin, but today the Wiesenhof rider got the win he'd been looking for ahead of Rene Weissinger (Team Volksbank) and Edvald Boasson Hagen (Team Maxbo-Bianchi). Lagutin finished inside the top 20 and kept the leader's jersey for another day.
"This win is a totally great feeling and I'm happy for the whole team that we could finally win a sprint again," said the happy winner. "Yesterday wasn't so good for me because I won the mass sprint but still didn't stand on top of the podium. That just makes today so much better."
The day's 145.5 kilometre parcours from Landau to Worms featured four categorised climbs, made all the more difficult by cold, rainy weather. "The race was very hard today with the many mountain rankings, and the bad weather was not good for the muscles," he added. Lagutin seconded Radochla's opinion of the weather. "Today was even worse than yesterday," the Uzbekhi noted.
The stage featured a 100 km breakaway by three riders, Andreas Schillinger of Team Sparkasse, Johan Coenen (Chocolade Jacques) and Riccardo Chiarini (Team LPR) . Despite the bad weather they gained a lead of up to three minutes ahead of the field. The peloton caught them on the finishing circuit in the city of Worms.
Friday's third stage runs 164,7 km from Worms to Mainz and features five mountain rankings.
