Miranda takes a technical finale

Gonzalo Miranda (OGM) won today a massive sprint that included a technical last two kilometres in Valdivia. Second was Miguel Chacon (Venezuela national team) and third was the young Luca Damiani (Colavita-Sutter Home).
The stage featured a four man escape formed by Cristobal Gomez (OGM), Pedro Dourado (Scott), Ramon Martinez (Samsung-Cine Cien) and Adam Bergman (Colavita-Sutter Home). With 28 km to go, Cristobal Gomez and Ramon Martinez were caught during the Cuesta Caman, a category two climb.
Dourado and Bergman managed to stay clear and were caught with only two kilometres to go by a desperate peloton controlled by Lider and Relax-Gam.
Teams now prepare for the 16km team time trail that will take place on Mafil, a town near Valdivia. Lider is the favorite for this event, but also Selle Italia has an extremely motivated Edgardo Simon and Jose Serpa, both time trial specialists. Francisco Mancebo's Relax-GAM team is also expected to do well.

All 90 riders took start on this second stage. After 5 kilometers of racing, attacks started coming from all teams trying to put their riders in an escape. There were several attempts that the peloton didn't allow to go, but after 20 kilometers a 5 man group was given permission by the peloton: Cristobal Gomez (OGM), Gonzalo Astroza (Apicola Martinez), Pedro Dourado (Scott), Ramon Martinez (Samsung-Cine Cien) and Adam Bergman (Colavita-Sutter Home). After 5 kilometers the group opened a gap of 1 minute. At this moment the leaders teams took control of the peloton and established a 35-40 km/h cruising speed and only allowed a maximum 2 minute 20 second advantage.
The peloton exited the highway into a local road heading towards the only climb of the day, the category two Cuesta Caman. In the climb the break fell to pieces and Pedro Dourado (Scott) and Adam Bergman (Colavita-Sutter Home) dropped their companions. Holding a lean 1'15 gap, the peloton accelerated in the last kilometer of the climb causing a split that managed to come back on the downhill side.
After the climb, Edgardo Simon had a scary moment when he had a flat tire on a technical part of road with just 20 km to go. His teammates helped him come back in a very fast and clean job. Meanwhile in the front, the gap to the leaders continued to fall as Lider and Relax-Gam tapped out speeds of near 60 km/h to bring the breakaway back. With 10 kilometers to go, the duo in the front led by a slim 27 seconds and were finally caught just two kilometers to go.

With no break on the front, the pace was blazing fast to set up the sprinters for a win. In the end Gonzalo Miranda (OGM) came home with a win, beating in the line Miguel Chacon (Venezuela national team) and Luca Damiani (Colavita-Sutter Home)
