Tour of Ohio - NEOhio, USA, June 19-, 2007Main Page Results Overall standings Previous Stage Next Stage Stage 2 - June 20: Circuit race, 50 milesEngland grabs stage and GCThe second stage of the Tour of Ohio saw another triumph by Abercrombie and Fitch, this time in the form of a sprint finale by New Zealander Josh England. England uncorked a vicious sprint in an uphill finish to cross the line in Gambier in front of the Italia Pasta duo of Phillipe Abbot and Dave Richter. How it unfoldedThe day commenced over a challenging eight-mile circuit, which featured a short steep uphill finish in addition to a series of rollers, which offered no flat riding for recovery. The pace of the race, the constantly undulating course, and a rainstorm at the beginning of the race resulted in a culling of the field to half its original size at the end of the day. Despite many attempts by several teams to break the race open, the stage appeared destined to end in a sprint until the final lap when Mercy/Specialized Racing's Dewey Dickey finally got free with a half lap to go. Dickey appeared to be on his way to a solo victory when A&F managed to summon the horsepower to close down the gap at the base of the final climb. Marco Aledia and Mark Hekman set a brutal tempo at the base and launched England to his flight to the finish. By virtue of his victory, England now wears the yellow jersey of the overall leader with his teammate Aledia now second and Abbot carrying third. Hekman retains the green sprinter's jersey.
