Chas Messenger stage race - NEUK, April 29-May 1, 2006Main Page Results Overall standings Previous Stage Stage 4 - May 1: HillingdonColeman's day but bonus gives overall to ElliottBy Ian Chatfield After initial heavy rain in the early morning, it was fortunate that the roads mainly dried out for the final stage in the hills to the North West of Long Crendon. The conditions remained dry and windy throughout the stage. An initial unease amongst the bunch caused a couple of spills. James Williamson (Agisko-Dart-cyclingtv) started the third lap with a lone break with a 25 second lead and was joined by Team Milton Keynes rider Richard Cartland. By the end of the lap they had been joined by Matt Bottrill of the De Rosa RT although the gap had been reduced to 15 seconds. The 3 maintained this lead until the end of the 4th lap when the race came back together. At lap 5 Tony Gibb (PCA) and Matthew Higgins (JE James RT) has forged a gap of 20 seconds; however when this was reduced to 10 secs; Gibb sat up and waited for the bunch. On the final lap Matt Bottrill again attacked and gained 10 seconds, only to be reeled in a short while later. From this point on it was always going to end up in a bunch sprint. This was taken by Neil Coleman (Agisko-Dart-Cyclingtv), with Malcolm Elliott (PCA) second and Simon Gaywood (CC Luton) third. Elliott’s second place gave him a 10 second bonus that let him overtake team mate Tony Gibb, who finished sixth in the stage, for overall honours, Gibb was second with Coleman in third.
