Baldwin & Trombley climb to wins

With 3,300 feet of climbing in 8 miles, stage 3 promised to shake up the GC after the flatland powerfest of stage 2. Add in dirt for the final 3 miles and a healthy dose of high altitude and you can see why this was a real sufferfest.
In both the men's and women's races the winner made their move early and set out to make up lost time on GC. For Chris Baldwin (Navigators), winner of the stage 1 time trial, he needed to regain the 2 minutes he conceded after an untimely flat tire on the previous day's final lap. His impressive display of climbing aptitude netted him the stage win, but season local sensation Andy "The Baj" Bajadali (Vitamin Cottage) kept him in sight and took over the GC lead by finishing only 16 seconds behind on the stage.
In the Pro-1-2 Women's race, 2000 MTB Olympian Ann Trombley (ExcelSports.com) started the day a little over a minute behind TT specialist Mari Holden (T-Mobile). Knowing it was a lot of time to make up in 8 miles, she went early and Holden was right on her wheel but soon the pace was too much for the former TT World Champ and Trombley rode away to win by 31 seconds over fellow mtn biker Kerry Barnholt (Subaru-Gary Fisher). More importantly, Trombley she gained 1:34 on Holden and assumed the overall race lead going into the afternoon criterium.

- Tyler Hamilton was out offering encouragement to all the riders racing past his front door
- Race sponsor Bruce Hodgkins (ExcelSports.com) had a great ride to win the 45 plus division with a time that would have won the 35 plus race!
