Excel Sports Boulder Stage Race - NEUSA, May 13-15, 2005Main Page Results Overall standings Next Stage Stage 1 - May 13: Morgul-Bismark Time Trial, 11.2kmFormer TT champs take chargeBy Rob Karman In the first sorting of the GC the TT specialists did not disappoint as former TT World Champ Mari Holden (T-Mobile) and former US National TT Champ Chris Baldwin (Navigators) took convincing wins in their respective categories. Both will have to be attentive and have good luck in stage 2 which is held on a course which historically serves up a race of attrition. Held on rolling dirt roads north of Boulder, the Boulder-Roubaix course has claimed many a victim of fatigue or misfortune. While logistics do not allow follow vehicles on the 8 mile loop which will have several categories competing simultaneously, the promoters have set up 3 neutral pits in key spots around the course so that competitors can service their bikes and get back in the race in the event of a mechanical. Holden will face the double threat of home team Excel Sports' former Olympian Ann Trombley and current Masters National Champ Maatje Benassi who filled out the podium with Holden in Stage One. Defending Excel Stage Race Champ Trombley will likely be biding her time for the Stage 3 Hill climb where she will likely have an advantage over Holden. In the men's race, Baldwin will have the assistance of his team mate Phil Zajicek who finished second to him in stage one, though they will have to keep their eye on third place finisher Timmy Duggan who brings has his full TIAA/CREF squad on hand to help him try and upset the establishment. The Vitamin Cottage team is also here in full force and when the road heads uphill on Sunday morning, don't count out the legendary Ned Overend from Specialized.
