The final stage Old Mill District Criterium of the 2005 Cascade Cycling Classic saw both Kristin Armstrong (T-Mobile) and Scott Moninger (Health Net presented by Maxxis) hold on to their overall leads, though their defense styles couldn't have differed more.

In the women's race, Armstrong's T-Mobile squad aggressively took the stage win by sending new member Katie Mactier off the front after the Webcor ladies tried to snap the elastic on the first two laps. Mactier was soon joined by powerhouse teammate Ina Yoko Teutenberg and the pair put their heads down and left the field in their wake. Behind, T-mobile hit the skids to help grow the gap as well as chased down the repeated attempts of Webcor to bridge. With about ten minutes remaining in the 60 minute contest the flaming pink duo lapped the field. One lap later, former TT world champ Mari Holden (T-Mobile) launched off the front to secure another T-Mobile sweep of the podium. Teutenberg again bridged up to her teammate and set about distancing them from the pack. The pair in pink would stay away to the end with Kori Seehafer (T-Mobile) attacking solo on the last lap to take 4th. Mactier finished in the pack and moved up to 4th overall with the time she gained by lapping the field.

The men's race was more of a nail biter, at least for Moninger and his Health Net squad. With Cesar Grajales and Chris Baldwin (both Navigators) sitting 11 and 25 seconds back respectively Health Net had their work cut out for them to defend the lead of three time former winner Moninger. The race started with a from the gun attack by Matt Dubberly (McGuire Real Estate) which lasted until the first prime 3 laps in. This was quickly countered by aggression from two of yesterday's attackers as both Tim Johnson (Jittery Joe's - Kalahari) and Aaron Olson (Colavita Olive Oil - Sutter Homes) tried to get away.

They were brought back but felt good enough to try again and this time it stuck. Along with them was friday night's Twilight Crit stage winner Kirk O'Bee (Navigators). Burke Swindlehurst (Sea Silver) and yesterday's circuit race winner Taylor Tolleson (Cal Giant - Village Peddler) soon bridged up one by one. As the gap began to grow to over 20 seconds the group grew to 7 as Andy Bajadali (Vitamin Cottage) and Ben Jacques-Maynes (Kodak Gallery - Sierra Nevada) made it across. It would not stay this big as Swindlehurst and Bajadali soon fell off the pace. Tolleson also looked in difficulty as he dangled a few lengths off the back but managed to regain the front group a lap later.

Back in the field Health Net set tempo on the front just hard enough to discourage attacks but easy enough to be able respond to the repeated attempts by the Navigators Chris Baldwin and Cesar Grajales to jump across to the leaders and assume the overall race leadership.

With the gap steady at around 30 seconds and Health Net keeping a watchful eye on Baldwin and Grajales, a few opportunists decided they would rather die trying to cross the gap than sit in until the end. First TIAA-CREF tried with out success. Then Vitamin Cottage sent Chuck Coyle followed by Andy Bajadali up the road to no avail.

With 1 lap to go it was former Cyclo-Cross National Champ Tim Johnson (Jittery Joe's - Kalahari) making a bid for glory that looked promising, but he was caught by O'Bee in the final meters and had to settle for 2nd as O'Bee picked up his second stage win.

Gord Fraser (Health Net - Maxxis) took the field sprint for 6th as Scott Moninger crossed the line in the pack to become the only 4 time Cascade Classic winner.
