Stage 3 - August 4: Traralgon - Port Albert, 80.6 km
McLachlan takes morning leg

Former Olympian Robert McLachlan (ACT) won the morning stage from Traralgon to Port Albert, edging away from Tighello and Tasmanian Matthew Rice. Whilst the stage was not a long one - 80 km - the terrain and weather conditions made it tough going for all concerned.
Seven sprints and two hill climbs, plus a pretty steep and difficult descent had riders on their toes and needing to have their wits about them. McLachlan praised all riders, particularly those in the breakaway group for using commonsense.

"It would have been an easy stage to do something stupid, given the wind and rain, but everyone rode sensibly," he said. "I was in real strife on the climb but was able to recover on the descent, but it was a real tough ride, despite it only being 80 km."
McLachlan continued the Canberra dominance after fellow ACT riders James Meadley and Stuart Shaw had won the opening two stages on Wednesday.
