Great moment for lead-out man Flickinger

Andy Flickinger (AG2R) was given the freedom to ride a bunch sprint for himself instead of his sprint leader Jean-Patrick Nazon, who did not feel up to the challenge today, and was promptly the first to cross the line when, 92 km later in Angers, that exact scenario took place. He took the stage victory in front of Fabio Borghesi (Miche) and Peter Mertens (Chocolade Jacques), while the jellow jersey was again awarded to Anthony Ravard (Bouygues Telecom).
How it unfolded
It was a nervous stage with plenty of attacks and breakaways, the first of which was attempted by Nicolas Roche, but did not succeed. Stéphane Augé (Cofidis) and Eric Berthou also took their chances, but the peloton was controlled by Bouygues Telecom, who kept Ravard's yellow jersey safely.
Even so when Sylvain Chavanel (Bouygues Telecom), Laurent Brochard (AG2R), Stephan Schreck (T-Mobile) as well as two other riders joined Augé on the last 20 km, riding on a circuit course of 4.6 km. The bunch moved at the right pace and swallowed the break with four km to go. In the finale, Flickinger proved to be the fastest, while the star of this year's Circuit de la Sarthe, Jan Ullrich, is rolling along in the race.
"That was a pretty fast race again this morning," he said. "But I've been able to keep the pace without any problems." He was also looking forward to the next part of today's second stage, the time-trial in the afternoon. "I want to train on my time trialling machine as much as possible before the Tour de France. That's why I'm taking this afternoon's short time trial very seriously." As second part of today's stage two, 8.8 km will be raced against the clock in the afternoon.
