Swindlehurst breaks through, Bruckner holds

On the final day of The Outside Magazine Tour of the Gila, Burke Swindlehurst (Team Seasilver) and T-Mobile's Kimberley Bruckner reigned on the climb with Swindlehurst taking the stage and moving himself into first place overall to take the Tour, whilst Bruckner's win reconfirmed her strength on the climbs to increase her lead over second place Genevieve Jeanson.
The last stage up to Pinos Altos was always going to decide the men's race with the GC being so close leading into the stage. Before the stage Andrew Bajadali (Vitamin Cottage) led by only three seconds from Ivan Stevic (Aerospace Engineering). It was Swindlehurst's performace on the climb that won the race for him, taking the win by 23 seconds from Tecos rider Vbaldo Mesa. Bajadali finished in tenth 56 seconds down, making Swindlehurst the overall winner of the Tour.
In the women's race, a break of four riders took off early in the race with another four bridging up later in the race. T-Mobile let the break go keeping the gap under five minutes all the way. They set the pace leading up to the climb setting up Bruckner to do her thing. Bruckner took off up the climb with Jeanson not able to stay with her again. She took the win with 1'34" to spare at the top increasing her overall lead to 2'45". Jeanson took second again, followed by Webcor rider Bettina Hold. Lynn Gaggioli climbed to fifth in the stage, and kept her third place overall.
