With three laps of the 14 kilometre circuit remaining, a four riders broke clear and built a maximum lead of 1 minute 15 secs. The riders in the break - Haydock, Edwin Crossling (Masterton), William Thompson (Auckland) and Australian Mathew Rex - were working well together, but Rex was called back by his team manager to help Docker, however the three young Kiwis held their advantage to the finish. With only this afternoon’s stage remaining, Haydock has a three seconds advantage over Crossling, with Docker now back in third place.
