42nd Giro Friuli Venezia Giulia - 2.6Italy, June 4-8, 2003Stage 1 - June 4: Sacile-Sacile ITT, 19 kmAustralian Team ReportBy Brian Stephens, AIS U23 manager We started the Giro della Friuli Venezia Giulia with the AIS Mapei Aqua Australian team consisting of Ashley Hutchinson, Brendan Cato, Lee Godfrey, Bernard Sulzberger and Peter Dawson. Also riding here are Aussies Bruce McIntosh and David McPartland, riding for their Italian clubs. The tour is over 5 days with the first being an individual time trial. The course for the time trial started with a flat run to a climb of 180 metres over 2km with a fast descent and flat run back to the finish. Peter Dawson, who is in great form at the moment posted the fastest time on his run but was later beaten by two riders and finished 3rd, taking the leading young rider's jersey. Lee Godfrey also posted a good one running 8th with Ruslan Pidgorny from Marchiol taking the win.
