Stage 2 - August 11: Xi Ning - Xi Hai Zhen, 191.4 km

Italians take control

At nearly 200 kilometres coupled with 3,592 metres of vertical elevation, today's stage from Xi Ning to Xi Hai Zhen saw a serious reordering on general classification, with Italian national team member Matteo Carrara coming out on top.

The first of the day's two climbs averaged 8-9 per cent, and the offensive strategy adopted by the Italian team members created an elite selection of riders with the yellow jersey of Kam Po Wong (Marco Polo) missing the cut.

With 10 kilometres to go, Matteo Carrara (Italian National) escaped from the front group of seven riders, finishing 33 seconds clear of his team-mate Elio Aggiano. Carrara now leads the race overall, with six stages remaining in the 1187 kilometre event.
