Stage 3 - August 12: Xi Hai Zhen - Niao Dao, 152 km

Local champion shows his colours

The Tour of Qinghai Lake moved to the cold, hilly region of Tibet today, with local champion Guozong Wang showing off his national champion's colours by taking the third stage and becoming the third race leader in as many days.

The 152 kilometre stage from Xi Hai Zhen to Niao Dao was again very hilly, with 3,400 kilometres of climbing. In what is proving a race of attrition, a small group of riders formed over the demanding parcours. In the finish town of Niao Dao, Guozong Wang (China National) crossed the line on his own ahead of Ulzii-Orshikh Jamsran (Marco Polo Cycling) and Elio Aggiano (Italian National). National champion Wang now leads the Qinghai Lake tour overall, just two seconds clear of Italian Elio Aggiano.
