Ukrainian Andrei Tchmil dropped break companion Ludovic Auger, a Frenchman known in his team as "le Flahute" (a French nickname for the Flemish) 3km from the finish at Waregem for his first win of the season. Johan Museeuw made a careful re-entry to racing after his crash in Milano-San Remo, abandoning after 180km.
