Mosquito Cycles/Kinesis LCCAssociation League #13

Penshurst, January 6, 2001

Stuart Blunt takes his first ever London Cyclo-Cross League title

By Mark Wyer

Stuart Blunt (Team Corridori) won his first ever London Cyclo-Cross League title at Penshurst with an easy win in the event run by Team Darenth. Blunt has previously been eligible but not been able to complete enough rounds. However, missing the last World Cup round enabled him to ride the Addiscombe event. He has won 9 rounds for a maximum score that cannot be beaten with one round to go.

Round 13 of the Mosquito Cycles/Kinesis London Cyclo-Cross Association League was organised by Team Darenth on 6 January 2002 at Penshurst Off Road Club.

The Team Darenth event was switched to the PORC circuit due to Dartford Council not allowing the use of the Darenth Country Park course. The course was heavy going in places, but fast in others.

Blunt lead from the start and by half distance had a 2 minute gap over Spurgin (Unattached). He then eased off and maintained this gap until the end. In form Spurgin had a clear ride for second. There was a closer battle for third with Fritter (Wigmore CC) initially holding this position before Dickson (Mosquito) took over and in the process won the veteran's prize.

There was a good battle in the junior ranks, with Alan Duncan (GS Invicta) and Chris Ansell (Festival RC) swapping places all race. Duncan eventually prevailed and finished in eighth overall.

There was a sprint finish in the Youth race where Ian Field (San Fairy Ann CC) and Alex Atkins (VC Meudon) were locked together all race. These two finished second and third respectively in the National Trophy series. Atkins lead out the sprint and looked to be holding it until Field squeezed through an ever narrowing gap on the tough uphill finish.
