Thijs Verhagen of the Netherlands has won the U23 division of the Cyclo-Cross World Championships in Zolder Belgium by squeezing up the right side in a five man sprint for the line.

Six riders separated themselves from the other contenders by the start of the third lap and rode together for the most part in a long drawn out game of cat and mouse. On lap 6, Belgian rider Davy Commeyne attacked and managed to hold a 5 second gap for most of the lap but was brought back in once the riders regained the pavement, setting things up for the final lap sprint.

At first it seemed that Verhagen was boxed in, but then a small gap opened just enough and Thijs slipped by to win by mere centimeters.
